Carol's Kids is a nonprofit created by Matthew to honor his grandmother Carol. We raise funds to donate brand-new, age-appropriate books to children at Stony Brook Children's Hospital, bringing them comfort and joy. Every story shared is a tribute to Carol's love of reading and a source of hope for young readers.

About Carol

Carol was the kind of person who made you feel instantly at home. She was warm, thoughtful, and deeply loved as a wife, mom, grandmother, sister and aunt. To so many, she was the steady presence you could count on, the one who showed up, listened closely, and cared in a way that stayed with you. She could sit and talk with you for hours about absolutely anything, and her laugh was so full and unforgettable and was known by all.

Books were at the heart of Carol’s life. She always had one with her, and she believed in the power of stories to teach, comfort, and inspire. That passion shaped her career at Hofstra University, where she worked as an English grammar professor and loved helping her students grow into confident readers and writers.

Carol was also a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren—her greatest joy. She carried her love of learning into everything she did, from quoting Shakespeare to sharing her favorite simple comforts: weekends in the Hamptons, York peppermint patties, and the music of James Taylor.

Carol fought breast cancer with strength and grace for five years before it took her at the age of 69. Her grandson Matthew created Carol’s Kids to honor her life and keep her love of reading alive. Through this nonprofit, Matthew is raising money to purchase books for hospitalized children—bringing the joy, escape, and hope that Carol always found in a good story.
